ANAHEIM, Calif. – In an exciting bout between recent Strikeforce fighters, Na-Shon Burrell earned a hard-fought decision victory. Despite a spirited effort from Yuri Villefort, Burrell earned winning scores of 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28. The welterweight bout kicked off UFC 157, which took place Saturday at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. It streamed on Facebook prior to additional FX prelims and the pay-per-view main card. UFC 157 Ronda Rousey submits Liz Carmouche with armbar in first

ANAHEIM, Calif. – It was déjà vu all over again, just on a much bigger stage. In yet another dominant performance – though certainly with a very testy moment early – Ronda Rousey did it again, stopping Liz Carmouche with – you guessed it – a first-round arm bar. In yet another dominant performance – though certainly with a very testy moment early – in a groundbreaking moment in sports history, Ronda Rousey did it again. The first UFC women's bantamweight champion stopped Liz Carmouche with – you guessed it – a first-round armbar in the first women's fight in UFC history.
DANA WHITE AFTER RASHAD EVANS' UFC 156 LOSS: 'HE HAS LOST THAT HUNGER'
LAS VEGAS – In the span of an hour, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans went from a potential middleweight title challenger to a fighter who's lost both "desire and drive," according to UFC President Dana White. White's sharp criticism came after Evans' unanimous-decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at Saturday's UFC 156 in Las Vegas. In the night's pay-per-view co-headliner at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Evans (17-3-1 MMA, 12-3-1 UFC) looked flat in a fight that ended in boos.
UFC 156'S SILVA SAVES TALK WITH OVEREEM FOR CAGE; TITLE SHOT NOW POSSIBLE
Antonio Silva turned in one of the better comebacks in recent memory on Saturday night when he knocked out Alistair Overeem early in the third round at UFC 156. But to hear Silva tell it, things went pretty much exactly as planned – at least in the third round. Silva (18-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) was held well in check for the first 10 minutes by Overeem (36-12 MMA, 1-1 UFC), who appeared to be toying with Silva at worst, and perhaps not seeing much sense of urgency to finish the fight at best.
Eddie Alvarez and UFC Deal
Bellator's complaint, which is dated Dec. 31, accused the ex-champ of breach of contract and five unnamed parties of tortious interference. Its central claim was that Alvarez has not honored a clause that allowed the promotion to retain his services by matching an offer almost word-for-word from UFC parent company Zuffa. Alvarez's reps countered that Bellator didn't actually match the deal.
JORGE MASVIDAL SCRATCHED FROM 'STRIKEFORCE: JANUARY 12th
A back injury has forced Jorge Masvidal (23-7 MMA, 5-1 SF) out of next month's planned bout with fellow lightweight Pat Healy (28-16 MMA, 6-1 SF) at "Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine." Sources close to the fighter today confirmed the withdrawal with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Although the organization has made no official announcement, a replacement likely will be sought. The event, which is Strikeforce's final one, takes place Jan. 12 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
TUF 16 FINALE RESULTS: MIKE RIO SUBMITS JOHN COFER,
LAS VEGAS – Diligence paid off for Mike Rio on Saturday night. Against John Cofer, his former castmate on "The Ultimate Fighter Live," Rio worked several times for an armbar in the third round before finally locking it up and forcing Cofer to tap with less than a minute left in what had been a back-and-forth fight. The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale event at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. It streamed on Facebook prior to additional prelims on FUEL TV and a main card on FX.
